Netflix Tells U.S. Its Video Handling Method Isn’t a ‘Fast Lane’

Netflix Inc. told a U.S. regulator its initiative to send online videos to subscribers without interruptions doesn’t amount to a so-called fast lane -- a term that’s a lightning rod in the debate over open-Internet rules.

The Netflix system, called Open Connect, delivers programs to locations selected by Internet-service providers so they can better stream it to customers. The system doesn’t disadvantage other content, the company said in a letter today to Ajit Pai, a member of the Federal Communications Commission.
