The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Rajat Gupta, the former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. director convicted of insider trading, leaving in place a lifetime ban on serving as an officer or director of a public company.

The rebuff came in the civil case filed against Gupta by the Securities and Exchange Commission, not the criminal case that led to his two-year prison sentence. Gupta’s bid for review of the criminal conviction is still pending at the Supreme Court.
