Sony Corp. sold its Sony Online Entertainment unit, maker of the multiplayer game EverQuest, to Columbus Nova LLC, a move that will give the publisher access to more video-game platforms.

Sony Online will be rebranded Daybreak Game Studio, freeing it to develop titles for mobile devices and non-Sony consoles such as Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox, according to a blog post on Monday. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Columbus Nova, based in New York, already owns the maker of the Rock Band game.
