Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s party backed an amendment to classify for 30 years information relating to a nuclear deal with Russia, sparking an outcry from the opposition that the move was cover for corruption.

Lawmakers of the ruling Fidesz party supported the change at a parliamentary committee meeting Friday, doubling the originally proposed 15-year period for which documents related to the expansion of the Paks nuclear plant would stay secret, according to the legislature’s website. Parliament, where Orban’s lawmakers have a two-thirds majority, still has to approve the legislation.
