Sanofi’s board reached out to AstraZeneca Plc Chief Executive Officer Pascal Soriot to sound out his interest in replacing Chris Viehbacher as CEO, according to people familiar with the situation.

Soriot, who successfully fought off Pfizer Inc.’s $117 billion hostile takeover this year, didn’t express interest, said the people, who asked not to be identified commenting on internal Sanofi matters. The approach took place earlier this year, they said. The board of the Paris-based company voted unanimously yesterday to remove Viehbacher.
