Buhari Takes Office Vowing to Fight Nigeria Graft, Militants

Former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari took office as Nigeria’s elected president, pledging to crack down on corruption, improve electricity supplies and defeat the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

In a speech after his inauguration Friday, Buhari, 72, praised Nigerians and his opponent in March elections, Goodluck Jonathan, for ensuring the West African nation’s first peaceful transfer of power from a ruling party to the opposition.
