Uganda’s main opposition party chose Kizza Besigye, who has lost three previous attempts to end President Yoweri Museveni’s 29-year rule, as its candidate for elections scheduled for next year.

Besigye defeated Forum for Democratic Change leader Mugisha Muntu to win the party’s nomination with 718 votes to 289, according to an announcement posted on its Twitter account late Wednesday.
