Romney Called Ryan to Encourage Run for House Speaker: Upton

Mitt Romney called Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Thursday to urge him to run for House speaker, Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., tells reporters.
- “I know that he’s still thinking about it,” Upton says of Ryan, adding that he spoke to him earlier on Friday
- “He said ‘no’ initially. But it’s my understanding that he’s giving it a second thought”
- Upton says he expects answer from Ryan “in the next couple of days”
- “No one knows the time frame. You know, his wife is not in town, he’s gotta take some searching time”
- NOTE: Romney tabbed Ryan as his running mate of 2012 Republican presidential ticket
