‘He Named Me Malala’ Director Davis Guggenheim on New Documentary
On “With All Due Respect,” Director Davis Guggenheim sits down with John Heilemann to discuss his new film “He Named Me Malala,” which opens on October 2. The film profiles teen activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating for girls’ education. It centers on the beautiful relationship between Malala and her dad, Ziauddin. Guggenheim, who has two daughters of his own, said he was inspired by the complexity of this father-daughter relationship in making the film.
