Tokyo Otaku Mode Inc., the operator of a website and smartphone app selling Japanese-themed goods worldwide, is considering an initial public offering outside Japan before the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“We want to bring ourselves to the level where we can go public on an overseas market,” Tomohide Kamei, chief executive officer of closely held Tokyo Otaku Mode, or TOM, said in an interview. “The Olympics are putting the global spotlight on Japan, and so that’s a one-in-a-million chance to move ahead with the IPO.”
