Germany Vows to Keep Russia Sanctions for Ukraine Impasse

France ruled out delivery of the first of two Mistral warships to Russia and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said sanctions will stay as long as the government in Moscow does little to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s territorial integrity has been “repeatedly violated” amid continuing unrest in its easternmost regions, Merkel said yesterday. The situation in Ukraine means the terms for handing over the helicopter carrier “have not been met,” according to French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
