Israeli officials plan a crackdown on tax evasion by some of those who have come to the country under laws designed to encourage Jewish immigration, Tax Authority Director Moshe Asher says.

Israel has “inadvertently” emerged as a tax shelter over the past decade as part of the immigration policy, Asher told a Jerusalem conference of certified public accountants earlier this month, Bloomberg BNA reported.
