Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Some 500 of my colleagues ineconomics, almost all academics, have signed a statementapplauding former Governor Mitt Romney’s economic plan andcondemning President Barack Obama’s handling of the economy. Thestatement amounts to an endorsement of Romney’s presidentialcandidacy. As such, it represents a disservice to the economicsprofession as well as to the statement’s signatories, five ofwhom are Nobel laureates.

Economics holds itself out as a science, yet here we havesupposedly impartial scientists declaring that all of Romney’sproposed economic policies are good and that everything thepresident has done on the economics front has been misguided andflawed.
