March 20 (Bloomberg) -- New evidence that the slowdown inhealth care costs over the past five years is happening not onlybecause of a weak economy comes from the Economic Report of thePresident, released last week by the President’s Council ofEconomic Advisers. If the slowdown were to continue in thefuture, the report shows, Medicare spending would basicallyremain flat as a share of the economy.

Nevertheless, new data suggest Medicare spending growth maybe picking up a bit. So it’s important to take more aggressiveaction to improve value in health care.
