Internet users in China were unable to search for content about Egypt on microblog services offered by companies including Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Sina Corp., as anti-government protests escalated in the Middle Eastern nation.

Sina is prevented from showing microblog posts related to Egypt by “rules and regulations,” according to a message displayed by its website, when a search on the keyword “Egypt” is entered in Chinese. Similar searches on microblog services run by Tencent and Sohu.com Inc. returned no related posts.
