London is on course to see its population rise faster than any other region of England, with the British capital projected to reach 9.54 million by 2026 and account for one in six people living in the country. But migration will play no role, the Office for National Statistics said Thursday, as net inflows of foreigners are offset by people leaving the city for other areas. Instead, population growth will be driven by “natural change,” or births outnumbering deaths.
