Coal’s days are numbered. While it accounts for 38 percent of global electricity generation today, it’s less than 10 years from its peak and by 2050 will be the source of just 11 percent of world electricity, according to Bloomberg NEF. As coal plants age they will be replaced by wind and solar generation at first, and then by cheap batteries.
