President Donald Trump believes Hong Kong will lose its status as Asia’s financial hub if the Chinese government proceeds with a new law to curb protests in the territory, the White House press secretary said.
“I went directly to the president to get an answer on this, and he said to me that he’s displeased with China’s efforts and that it’s hard to see how Hong Kong can remain a financial hub if China takes over,” White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said at a briefing on Tuesday.
