President Xi Jinping visited China’s Xinjiang region after not being seen in public for almost two weeks following a landmark trip to Hong Kong that was his first outside mainland China since the pandemic’s outset.

State-run Xinhua reported late on Thursday that Xi made stops at a university, a residential community and a museum in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. A festive video posted by Sina.com showed Xi being applauded by large groups of people at his various stops and taking in some folkloric musical performances and dances.
